Easter and No More Diapers!

So, today is Easter and we had a house full of family. Grandma Rosie, Grandpa Pat and the Thompsons were here to celebrate with us. When Addyson woke up this morning, she was thrilled to see that the Easter Bunny had come and hid a bunch of eggs and left her some art stuff and Jessie and Woody dolls from Toy Story. She was a good little girl at church but I think her favorite part of the day was having her cousins here to play with her. She was so excited to show them that she was a big girl and finally going on the potty. It was exactly a week ago that we were with them and she was still in diapers. We are so proud of her, she has decided that she is done with diapers and has been perfectly using the potty since Wednesday. Everyone told me to just let her decide when she wants to use it and lo and behold that is exactly what happened. She decided Tuesday night that she wanted to start potty training and proved to me that she was serious by going at Kids Corner (YMCA childcare) with a stranger helping her the next morning, so we let her lead the way and she has been doing awesome ever since. I never thought it would be so easy. (It also helped that her friend, Maggie, showed her how it was done a few weeks ago...she has been talking about that ever since!) She has even been going by herself without telling us what she is doing until after she is done. She is certainly being courageous and acting so grown up about it. Isn't it amazing how quickly your children grow up?

So this past week was a lot busier than usual with Addyson getting to go to Midwest Twisters on Monday with her playgroup, and while we were there, we celebrated my good friend, Luanne's birthday. So not only did Addyson get to do gymnastics but she got to eat lunch with Lucie and Maggie and eat cake! Later that night, she went to swim lessons with Daddy which she loves. Shockingly, she jumps into the water by herself and puts her head underwater while holding her breath. Just a year ago, she acted so intimidated by it and this session of swim lessons she has become a fish. I can't wait to see how she does in the next session of swim lessons by herself. Tuesday and Thursday she had her YMCA classes and then Friday, we got stuck at home because we got about 10 inches of snow! Periodically throughout the day, Addyson would look out the window and say, "Where is Spring?" It must be pretty bad when a child is sick of the snow. April is only a few weeks away so hopefully it will bring the warmer weather with it.

Easter Egg Hunt

Gees, I cannot believe that it has been two weeks since the last post. You would think that I was really busy during that time and that is why I haven't posted anything. In reality, there hasn't been anything exciting to post. Addyson did get to go to the Children's Play Gallery in Delafield this past week which was really fun for her. They have a treehouse with a slide, a huge pirate ship for the kids to play on with rope swings and a slide, an art room, a stage for them to dress up and perform, a baby section, and a room for classes. Addyson and her friend, Maggie took the dance class that was offered. They loved it. Grandma Rosie and Grandpa Pat came to visit twice in the last two weeks and Aunt Diana, Uncle Bob and Kaylee stopped by last Sunday, but other than that, we have been pretty much been spending our mornings at the YMCA and the evenings at home, doing a whole lot of nothing. We need the warm weather to get here so we can go to all the parks in the area and get out of this house!

The annual ONC Easter Egg Hunt was today and the kids got to hunt in our yard for the eggs. Addyson was so excited this morning when she looked out into the yard and saw all the easter eggs scattered throughout. She started telling me all the colors of them and she tried so hard to get outside before the other kids got here. Tim did a good job of keeping her inside so that she didn't get a head start. Even though I caught her twice sneaking eggs into her basket when no one was looking. The Easter Bunny made a surprise visit and got the kids even more excited. I think overall it was a good time for the kids even if it was really cold. I have posted all of those pictures on Shutterfly and a few of Addyson on this blog.

Morgan and Addyson's Picture Day

Thank goodness I had the previous experience of taking two young children to get their picture taken together last October or else I may not have known to choose a day when Tim could come with me to get the girls' picture taken. I always took Addyson on her own but trying to get one child dressed and posed for pictures is one thing....two is a totally different story! Tim didn't believe that I really needed his help until he saw firsthand all the prepping, posing, and wardrobe changing it takes to get a good photo. When Addyson smiled, Morgan frowned and when Morgan was smiling, Addyson wasn't looking at the camera. Then you have the time when Morgan is slipping out of Addyson's arms and they are both making strange faces. It took a lot of pictures to get a few good ones, but it all works out in the end. We found a great place to get good portraits and every time I have gone there, I come home with a crapload of pictures....although most of them do not get used. :O) Oh well, how many moms have left a portrait studio with too many photos? Most of my friends would agree that it is hard to say no to pictures of your babies!

So, things are going well here...Morgan is still working on taking a bottle. Some days it takes an hour to feed her 4 ounces and others it takes up to three hours, but I am determined to get her adjusted and I refuse to give up now. Addyson still is not potty trained but she did show her daddy that she could do it last night, so we are hoping that it becomes a trend with her and she finally gives up those diapers for good! She is much more interested in public bathrooms as well so maybe the "wait and see" method is the way to go. We are all a lot less stressed about it knowing that she is starting to learn the cues of having to "tinkle." I always wonder what my mom went through training my sister and me. Did she have a lot of battles? Unfortunately, she says she can't remember but that tells me that this stage in life is just a little blip on the radar especially when your kids start having their own kids.
